My Yoga Philosophy
The physical nature of my classes is supported by a foundation that strengthens and creatively opens the body. From a foundation rooted practically in the Earth, with the breath, we may eclectically expand outward and discover the more elusive elements of the spiritual/emotional experience.
In all my classes, I draw from my movement and healing arts background to create a well-rounded practice. At the root of each class are breathing, core strength, and intention building exercises. From that foundation, the branches extending from the universal "Yoga Tree" are constantly changing and shifting. No two living things are exactly the same. My teaching style is eclectic and symbolizes the ever shifting/expanding nature of the human experience.

Yoga Styles
Level 1, Level 2 & Mixed Levels
|
These classes range in difficulty and blend a variety of Hatha styles to create a comprehensive, well-balanced Yoga practice.
Level 1 classes are formatted for Beginners with little or no Yoga experience, though are also suitable for Intermediate students needing to modify their practice due to injury rehabilitation or stress. In this class we cover foundational technique, alignment, and breath control.
Level 2 classes are suitable for Advanced beginners and Intermediate/Advanced practitioners. These classes offer deep core strengthening exercises and delve deeper into Asana (pose) and Prana (energy) awareness. The sequences in these classes are dynamic and integrate movement flows, standing postures and balancing exercises. Level 2 and 2/3 classes are usually called "Eclectic Flow", mentioned below.
Please note, Hatha Yoga is a general term for most physical, Asana-based Yoga practices. Asana means “Pose”. The definition of Hatha is: A form of yogic exercise that emphasizes specific postures in combination with controlled breathing.

Eclectic Flow: Levels 2 and 2/3
|
| There are many styles of yoga and after years of practice and teaching, many teachers individuate and transform their Yoga molds. I have been practicing Vinyasa (flow), mixed Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga since 1995. Throughout years of self-practice, I have observed the metamorphosis of my personal Yoga path. Just like the cells in our body, nothing ever stays the same. We are constantly evolving.
I am grateful for the ever-increasing wellspring of wisdom I absorb from teachers, friends and mentors. What I call "Eclectic Flow" is an amalgamation of many different pieces of yoga information I have picked up a long the path. Though I have a deep love and appreciation for Ashtanga Yoga and Vinyasa flow and draw from their systems, I rarely teach the same format twice.
Eclectic Flow is an active Lev 2 or Lev 2/3 class which provides a full body workout usually consisting of: breath exercises (Pranayama), core strength, joy, standing and seated poses, challenges, laughter, Vinyasa (linking breath between poses), backbends, forwards bends and finishing and or restorative poses. |

Restorative, Therapeutic or Yin Yoga: All Levels
|
This is a delicious class consisting of gentle poses that restore and open the body. This class is suitable for all levels and is especially beneficial for: reducing stress and anxiety, injury or disease rehabilitation, physical/emotional support, body-mind-spirit restoration, relaxation, sleep disorders, and nervous tension.
In Restorative/Therapeutic classes, poses are supported with props to subtly release tension in the body. Props include: blankets, straps, bolsters and blocks.
In Yin yoga classes (often combined with Restorative and Therapeutic), poses are held for long periods of time to help soften the connective tissue surrounding the muscles. Yin yoga can be practiced with or without props. Restorative and Yin poses are often incorporated into each class I offer, regardless of the level. |

Ashtanga Style: All levels; some intro. to Yoga necessary.
1-2 years general experience recommended
|
| The
physical practice of Ashtanga known in the West is based on the
20th and 21st century teachings of Sri K. Pattabi Joyis, also affectionately
known as “Guruji”. He was the first to bring the Ashtanga
Yoga system or series to the West. This practice consists of a specific
order of poses linked by Ujjayi breath and strengthened by energy
holds called “Bandhas” in the body. Ashtanga means “Eight–Limbed
Yoga”. These limbs originate from the teachings of Patangali.
The Eight Limbs represent all the aspects of the ancient Ashtanga
system. The Asana (posture) is only one of eight aspects.
|
The Limbs are:
|
| Yama |
Restraints or Abstinence |
| Niyama |
Observances or Disciplines or Devotion |
| Asanas |
Yogic postures |
| Pranayama |
Breath Control |
| Pratyahara |
Retraction of the Senses |
Dharana
|
Fixation of Attention |
| Dhyana |
Devotion, Fusive Apprehension |
| Samadhi |
Fully Integrated Consciousness |
